February 2004 – April 2006

I was the ranch manager for the Wagner Ranch of Fort Lupton, Co.

I was responsible for the day-to-day operations of this ranch. In addition to being a productive Hay Farm, we also operated a private training facility for an absentee owner.

bullet

We bred, raised, and trained both Cutting Horses as well as Roping Horses. Janie and I organized the breeding program using both A.I. as well as Natural Cover Techniques.

bullet

In addition to the horse programs, I continuously backgrounded 50 to 100 calves in our on-site Feedlot using Feed Trucks, Loaders and other Mixing equipment.

bullet

We also maintained a small herd of Bison on the ranch that we sometimes utilized in the training program.

I was farming about 100 acres of alfalfa and grass hay, which I irrigated with Open Ditches and Gated Pipe.

bullet

My annual yield was about 15,000 to 18,000 small bales per year.

bullet

I personally cut, raked, baled, and stacked this hay and irrigated the fields between cuttings.

bullet

We used most of this good hay to feed our own horses and sell a portion to the public.

Janie and I worked to maintain the Training Facility which included a large Indoor Arena, even larger Outdoor Arena, Stall Barns and Runs, Mare Motel, Ranch Office, and more.

Throughout the year, I was involved in various repair projects as needed around the ranch using my expertise in plumbing, electrical, welding, or home remodeling. Janie is a willing and capable partner in our efforts.

We were happy in that current position but feared that this ranch was soon to be sold to Developers in the area therefore causing us to relocate.

June 2003 – February 2004

Accepted a position to assist a family owned and operated 16,000-acre ranch in the Sandhills of Nebraska.

bullet

Livestock included: 1100 pairs, 20 brood mares, and 2 stallions.

bullet

There were 5 pivots over alfalfa; we put up 5000 round bales and 2000 small squares of meadow hay and alfalfa.

bullet

Janie started a horse management program soon after moving there; she calmed and halter broke 14 weanlings.

bullet

We both groomed, clipped, trimmed, and prepared said colts for that years Pitzer Ranch Production sale.

bullet

I have been involved with all aspects of haying and performed equipment maintenance on tractors, balers and swathers.

bullet

I am experienced with plumbing, electrical repairs, welding, fence construction and repair, riding and roping, backgrounding, calving, doctoring and vaccinating.

bullet

This ranch relied on 4-wheelers as well as ranch horses. I am experienced with both, however, I prefer to be horseback.

1992-2003    Started my own swimming pool contracting company in Austin, Texas. Opened a retail store and operated it for 3 years along with construction and service company. Utilized all skills listed above along with developing communication skills, time and resource management, budgeting, and supervision of a maximum of 15 employees both men and women.

bullet

Divorced in 1995 and re-married a wonderful woman in 1999 - Janie Lyn of Nebraska.

bullet

During our marriage we maintained our own modest acreage while both working outside the ranch.

bullet

We put up hay to feed our own horses and cattle and made improvements when needed.

1989-1992 Worked as service manager for swimming pool company in San Marcos, Texas. Utilized my skills in plumbing, electrical, construction services, employee supervision, record keeping, and sales.

1986-1988     Accepted position with Ford Arabian Ranch in Twin Sisters, Texas. Duties included interstate horse transportation as well as ranch maintenance, fencing, welding, plumbing, and electrical.

bullet

Married in early 1989 and had to leave the ranch to live in town.
